Take a Nostalgic Trip Back to 2015

This site has been lovingly restored and archived by Willis Wi's development team, Flying Fooks, all avid rugby fans and players. But his interest in sports goes way beyond rugby. After watching an Extreme Frisbee match among expert players including NYC attorney Benjamin Pred (read how an extreme workout landed Pred in the hospital) and professional gamer Silas Marner II, Wi started bringing a Frisbee to work. He and his teammates began playing a low impact game of Frisbee rugby which included their girl friends and wives and doesn't require any protective equipment. This site is devoted to the mindset that rugby is everywhere and never going away.

Rugby World Cup, as we all know is a really big tournament, and this fact is also verified, by knowing that the first ever RWC 2015, which was held in 1987 had invited 16 national rugby teams, from different nations, for the inaugural tournament, and the number has only increased since then, unlike ICC’s decision to play only 8 Nations in the Cricket World Cup 2019. In 1999 Rugby World Cup, there were 20 Teams, which had been invited for playing the Rugby World Cup of 1999. Fixtures were well maintained and managed good enough not to clash at all. And also we are expecting the same from the 2015 Rugby World Cup Fixtures.

Richie McCaw Retires After Record-Breaking All Blacks Career

Richie MacCaw

Richie McCaw’s rugby career is over after the New Zealand captain confirmed his retirement from the game at a press conference in Wellington on Thursday.

The proclamation was not unexpected; the 34-year-old had hinted in the beginning this year that he would bring down the drape on his illustrious career after the 2015 World Cup and he was not included on the Crusaders’ roster for the 2016 Super Rugby season.

McCaw leaves the game as the most capped Test player in rugby history, having represented New Zealand 148 times in an international career spanning 14 years. He named his debut against Ireland at Lansdowne Road in 2001 and last month’s World Cup final triumph over Australia at Twickenham proved to be his last game in an All Blacks jersey.

“The final thing I wanted to do was limp to the final stage,” McCaw said. “I remember I caught the time right.”

The declaration comes with New Zealand and the wider rugby community still coming to terms with the news of Jonah Lomu’s sudden death on Wednesday.

McCaw said he had thought hard about the timing of his announcement in the brightness of that news and led off the press conference with a tribute to Lomu.

“It was a great blow. My thoughts and condolences go out to his wife, two young sons and his kin. He’s a true legend of the game. He’s probably bigger overseas than in New Zealand. At that place a bunch of people round the world mourning the loss of a large human being and great All Black.”

McCaw was widely believed to have been the best openside flanker in the globe and calls time on his career as one of the most decorated players to have studied to a rugby field.

“I’m hanging up my boots having accomplished everything I could have ever dreamed about in the game. Recognizing that I was capable to stop my career by helping the All Blacks win the Rugby World Cup final is a hugely satisfying feeling,” he pronounced.

Ever since being named as the All Blacks youngest captain at the age of 23 – against Wales in 2004 – he has smashed records with the same frequency as he caused the spirits of opposition players.

He is the only skipper to have led a side to two World Cup victories – with back-to-back titles in 2011 and 2015 – and he has been voted the IRB’s player of the year a record three times, in 2006, 2009 and 2010.

He became the first All Black to reach 100 Tests at 2011, has captained the side 111 times and won 89% of the games in which he worked.

Watching the maiden of his two World Cup triumphs, McCaw turned down the offer of a knighthood, saying it was an accolade he would not study while still working. Those days now behind him, another offer is likely.

“Whether he would carry one, I don’t know. The offer was there before and I can’t imagine anything has shifted,” New Zealand prime minister John Key told TV3 in August.

McCaw becomes the third member of the victorious 2015 World Cup squad to retire, following Keven Mealamu and Tony Woodcock, and indicated he now will pursue a vocation as a commercial helicopter pilot, having learnt how to take flight in 2012.

“It’s something I’m passionate about,” he stated. “I’m shaken up with what’s in the hereafter. I have loved my time as a rugby player, but I am facing ahead to what’s occurring. I think it’s the conclusion of a chapter and the beginning of a fresh one. But it has been a hell of a ride.”

Breaking News : All Blacks Legend Jonah Lomu Dies Aged 40 In Auckland

Jonah Lomu 1

Former All Blacks doctor John Mayhew confirmed on Wednesday that lame, survived by wife Nadene and young boys Brayley, 6, and Dhyreille, 5, died unexpectedly, although he has a long chronicle of health publications.

Lomu, who scored 43 tries in 73 matches for New Zealand between 1994 and 2002, was diagnosed with a serious kidney condition while still playing.
It pushed him to quit the game and he had a kidney transplant in 2004, but it stopped working in 2011.

Madden Lomu said: “It is with heavy sorrow that I must announce my dear husband Jonah Lomu died last night,” Ms Lomu said.
“Jonah was a fable of our game and loved by his many fans both here and around the macrocosm,” said New Zealand Rugby chief executive Steve Tew.
Lomu, however, appeared in public on Tuesday, photographed arriving at Auckland airport by sports journalist Craig Norenbergs.

“We’re lost for words and our heartfelt sympathies go out to Jonah’s family.”
Family spokesman John Mayhew told New Zealand television that Lomu’s death was “wholly unexpected, ” and that he had just come back from the UK, after spending time there for the Rugby World Cup, on Tuesday.
New Zealand Prime Minister John Key said: “The sentiments of the entire nation are with his family.”
In an interview with the Daily Mail in August, Lomu said he was on dialysis and hoping for a second kidney transplant.
He is held out by his wife Nadene and two sons.
“As you can guess, this is a devastating loss for our kin and may I ask that our privacy, especially the privacy of our two very young boys, be respected as we lead them through this traumatic time.”
Lama, however, appeared in public on Tuesday, photographed arriving at Auckland airport by sports journalist Craig Norenbergs.
Lomu made his Test debut in 1994 against France in Christchurch.

As easily as working for several domestic teams in his homeland, Lomu made 10 appearances for Cardiff Blues in Wales between 2005 and 2006, shortly before his retirement.
Despite never winning the World Cup, he is the joint top try-scorer in its history – alongside South Africa wing Bryan Habana – with 15 tries in 11 games during the 1995 and 1999 tourneys.
The winger captured global attention by scoring four tries against England in the 1995 semi-final, including a memorable solo effort where he raced over the top of full-back Mike Catt.

Early New Zealand skipper Sean Fitzpatrick tweeted: “Our thoughts are with the Jonah Lomu family tonight. A real particular person.”
All Blacks World Cup winners Dan Carter tweeted: “I still can’t believe the sad tidings. Love and thoughts move out to Jonah’s family.”
And former Wales fly-half Jonathan Davies said: “Can’t believe that Jonah Lomu has passed out. Was with him and his wife and family for an evening last month.
“So sad, life is so barbarous. RIP Jonah you were a genuine legend and a gentleman. You altered the game of rugby and will be sorely lost. My sentiments are with your family.”
Australian Rugby Union CEO Bill Pulver extended condolences Lomu’s family and acquaintances.

“I talk on behalf of the entire Australian Rugby community in showing our deep sadness today after the release of one of our game’s greatest ever musicians,” said Pulver.
“There will never be another Jonah Lomu. He was Rugby’s first genuine superstar.
“His long battle with health has been well documented and his legend grew even greater as he continued to inspire us all with his fight for life against a rare and crippling disease.

“Jonah’s legacy will last eternally in our game, and indeed all over the world.”
New Zealand Rugby Chief Executive Steve Tew said: “We’re totally offended and profoundly saddened at the sudden death of Jonah. We’re lost for words and our heartfelt sympathies go out to Jonah’s family. Jonah was a fable of our game and loved by his many fans both here and around the world.”
Lomu revolutionized rugby as a blockbusting winger — as large as most forwards yet able to move like the twist.

Of Tongan heritage, Lomu attended Auckland’s Wesley College and shot to prominence aged 19 when he got the youngest All Blacks Test players when he debuted against France in 1994.
His finest moments came at Rugby World Cups and in 1995 he hired the game by storm when he racked up seven tries in five games, including four tries in the demolition of England — memorably steamrollering England fullback Mike Catt.
He made 37 tries for New Zealand and shares the World Cup try-scoring record with Bryan Habana with 15.

Lomu’s steamrollering try-scoring feats attracted interest from the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys, but he stayed loyal to his beloved All Blacks.

His kidney issues — suffering a rare disorder known as nephrotic syndrome — meant he was pulled to cut short his rugby career but he bravely attempted several comebacks.
He received regular dialysis treatment to help dispense with his kidney issues.

While intimidating on the field, Lomu was beloved as a gentle giant off it.
He played at the 2015 World Cup as a rugby ambassador and spoke of his desire simply to watch his children reach their 21st birthdays.

In an August, 2015 interview with the Daily Mail, Lomu said: “My goal is to get it to the boys’ 21sts.
“There are no guarantees that will materialize, only it’s my focus. It’s a milestone that every parent wants to go to. My daddy dropped dead young and that makes you conceive. I require my male children to be healthy and if they get to 21, they should be fit and healthy and live a normal life.”

In a 2005 interview Lomu confronted his mortality.
“Eight hours on dialysis. Or kick the bucket? That was no choice,” Lomu said. “You accept two options in animation when your kidneys go bad. You either do dialysis or you fail. And dying is not in my vocabulary.
“The darkest moment was when I fell over for the inaugural time. Especially since I had no clue why it happened. By the time of the 2003 World Cup, I demanded my wife to help me walk. I would consider three steps and fall over, or I could walk for 10 minutes and then just fall over out of the gloomy. It barely paid out when it wanted. I was basically numb from the knees downwards. My walk wasn’t a walk, it was more of a shuffle.”

The Red Devils, of course, have struggled for form of late. Their defense has conceded just once since the 3-0 defeat to Arsenal—the goal scored by Seydou Doumbia in Moscow—but that game was also the final time they attack registered a goal.

Punter Scoops $140K With All Blacks Win

A punter has made $NZ140,000 ($A132,380) profit as the biggest bet ever placed with the TAB came good with New Zealand’s 34-17 victory over Australia in the Rugby World Cup final.

The TAB is not disclosing who placed a $NZ400,000 ($A378,232) bet for the All Blacks to win the World Cup in London, saying only that they lived in the North Island.

The bet was placed at $NZ1.35 ($A1.28), meaning the TAB will pay out $NZ540,000 ($A510,614), giving the punter a $NZ140,000 ($A132,380) reward for his faith in the side.

Sir Richie MacCaw ?

Sir Richie MacCaw

Richie McCaw's knighthood is in the bag.

After being put on ice since the last Rugby World Cup, the offer of a knighthood to the All Black captain will be revived, it is understood.

McCaw was sounded out about a knighthood by Prime Minister John Key in 2011 but turned it down because it was not the right time.

Key said at the time McCaw had told him he would love to take it but did not feel it was appropriate while he was still playing.

Ahead of the 2011 World Cup Key told McCaw: You lose the Rugby World Cup and in my mind you will always be Richie McCaw, a great bloke.

"And you win the World Cup, it's 'Arise, Sir Richard'."
McCaw is widely expected to retire after leading New Zealand to two Rugby World Cup victories but remained coy about that prospect after Sunday's match.

But if he does hang up his boots, he could be knighted Sir Richie as early as the New Year.
Key, who was at Twickenham for the historic match, was keeping his cards close to his chest when spoken to by reporters immediately after the match.

But senior Government sources said it was "safe to assume" that the offer of a knighthood will be extended to McCaw again.

The next honours list will be announced in the New Year.

Another who could be in line for an honour is All Blacks coach Steve Hansen, who is already a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit.

Former All Blacks coach Graham Henry was knighted after the 2011 Rugby World Cup victory.

Five All Black captains have been knighted for their services to sport and either business, education or the community - Wilson Whineray, Brian Lochore, Colin Meads, John Graham and Fred Allen.
